Producer Note:
Shaker has already proven to be a consistent producer. Her foals are loaded with personality, ability, and are built the way we like them. She’s the kind of mare that’s proud of what she produces — and she should be.
The kind of mare that makes you smile every time you swing a leg over — because you know exactly what you’re getting.
About Shaker
If you’ve ever heard us talk about our mares, it probably sounds like we say the same thing over and over again…
“This one’s my favorite.”
“This one is special.”
And the truth is — they all are.
Every mare here has a reason she’s here. They all bring something we value, or they wouldn’t be part of the program.
That being said…
We love this mare.
A Program Come Full Circle
Shaker is a 2019 mare we bred and raised — by Colonel C Header and out of Star Girl RG “Bonnie.”
She represents exactly what we’re trying to build.
A mare raised here, out of a mare we believed in, carrying forward the traits we value — disposition, ability, and usability.
When you talk about a breeding program “coming full circle,” this is what it looks like.
The Sorrel Mare
Shaker is a sorrel mare…
You know the kind.
She’s “The Shit” and she knows it.
She’s confident, a little sassy, and absolutely willing to give you everything she’s got. The kind that shows up every day with 110% and expects you to meet her there.
But underneath that confidence is a really good-minded, honest mare that wants to do her job and do it well.
She’s got presence.
She’s got feel.
And she’s got just enough attitude to make her fun.
Earned, Not Given
When Shaker was born, Chad had something very different in mind.
He was hoping for a buckskin filly — a little Bonnie look-alike.
When she hit the ground and came out sorrel, he took one look at her and said,
“Try again.”
That didn’t last long.
It only took a couple rides for that opinion to change.
After getting on her and feeling what she was, Chad claimed her as his ranch horse — and that told us everything we needed to know.
Mares like that don’t get assigned.
They get picked.
What She Is Under Saddle
Shaker has proven herself where it matters most — under saddle and on the ranch.
She’s got:
- A strong willingness to please
- The heart to go all day
- The ability to handle pressure
- And the kind of mind that figures things out
She’s already gotten Chad out of more than one pickle — and she’s the kind you’re glad you’re sitting on when things don’t go exactly as planned.
She’s dependable.
She’s capable.
And she’s got grit.
Early Potential
From the start, Shaker stood out.
As a young filly, she was one of the most balanced and complete individuals we raised that year. She had the look, the build, and the presence that made you pay attention.
When she came home from being started with about 30 rides, it was clear she was well on her way.
Our “keeper” fillies are expected to fill some big shoes.
Shaker didn’t just meet that expectation — she stepped into it.
What She’s Producing
Shaker has already started to prove herself as a producer.
Her foals are:
- Loaded with personality
- Athletic and capable
- Built the way we like them
- And easy to be around
She’s the kind of mare that seems to know exactly what she’s doing — a proud mama in every sense.
The kind that looks at you like,
“Look what I made.”
Carrying Bonnie Forward
Being out of Star Girl RG “Bonnie,” Shaker carries forward one of the most important influences in our program.
You can see it in her mind, her trainability, and the way she handles herself.
She has that same willingness.
That same feel.
That same ability to take care of her rider — while still having her own personality.
And she’s doing it in her own way.
Our Broodmare Philosophy
For us, a mare needs to be proven before she ever earns a place in the broodmare band. That might be in the show pen, on the ranch, or before she ever got to us — but she needs to have demonstrated ability and rideability. At a minimum, she is broke to ride with meaningful time under saddle.
We’ve put real miles on our mares — gathering, working cattle, and using them in day-to-day ranch work — so we know exactly what they’re like when it matters.
They have to meet the same standard as everything else here:
usable, good-minded, and built to last.
Shaker is proving that she belongs.
Looking Ahead
Shaker is the kind of mare we’re excited about — not just for what she is now, but for what she’s going to become.
She represents where our program is headed.
Home-raised.
Proven.
And built on the kind of mares that got us here in the first place.
