Nikki was that kind.

The Kind You Don’t Let Go Of

We purchased Nikki from respected Canadian breeder Melvin Thomson — and she wasn’t just another horse he was selling.

She was his personal riding horse.

The kind you keep for yourself.

The kind you know inside and out.

The kind that’s part of your day-to-day life.

And when it came time for him to let her go, it wasn’t easy.

He cried when he sold her.

And that told us everything we needed to know.

We promised him we would take the best care of her — and that’s something we don’t take lightly.

Proven Before She Got Here

Nikki came to us already proven.

Not just on paper — but in real life.

She had been used, ridden, and trusted. She’s tough, has a big motor, and absolutely no quit. The kind that can go all day and still have more to give.

And after getting her here and putting our own miles on her, that’s exactly what we found.

She’s the kind of mare you respect.

Because she earns it.

A Cross We Believe In

Nikki is one of three full sisters we have owned out of this cross.

That wasn’t by accident.

The first one we owned told us everything we needed to know — and when the opportunity came to purchase the others, we didn’t hesitate.

That kind of decision doesn’t happen unless you believe in what they are and what they consistently produce.

And this group of mares has proven that belief right.

The Kind That Raises Them Right

If there’s one thing Nikki is known for here, it’s this:

She is an exceptional mother.

She’s attentive, steady, and takes care of her babies the same way she took care of her rider.

A Little Surprise

Nikki has a way of keeping things interesting.

After preg-testing open one fall, she went right back to work in the ranch string. She spent the winter turned out, doing what broodmares do — and the whole time, we kept looking at her thinking…

“That’s the fattest open mare we’ve ever seen.”

Before putting her back to work in the spring, we decided to check one more time.

SURPRISE.

She was pregnant.

And just like that, Nikki reminded us she’s still got a few tricks up her sleeve.

What She’s Producing

Nikki’s foals have been everything we hoped for — and then some.

They carry:

• Substance and correctness
• Presence and eye appeal
• Good minds
• And a strong, capable build

And, in true Nikki fashion, they come with personality.

Around here, her foals have taken on a bit of a theme — you’ll recognize them by their Mötley Crüe-inspired names.

Our Broodmare Philosophy

For us, a mare needs to be proven before she ever earns a place in the broodmare band. That might be in the show pen, on the ranch, or before she ever got to us — but she needs to have demonstrated ability and rideability. At a minimum, she is broke to ride with meaningful time under saddle.

We’ve put real miles on our mares — gathering, working cattle, and using them in day-to-day ranch work — so we know exactly what they’re like when it matters.

They have to meet the same standard as everything else here:
usable, good-minded, and built to last.

Nikki came to us meeting that standard.

Looking Ahead

Nikki is a mare we’re proud to have in our program.

She brings outside credibility, real-world experience, and a level of toughness and consistency that complements what we’ve built here.

And more than anything, she represents something we value deeply:
