Producer Note:
We have retained every filly Dynamite has produced for our program.

A cornerstone here, and the kind we measure the rest against.

About Dynamite

Some mares earn their place over time.

And some make it pretty obvious from the start.

Dynamite was one of those.

We bought her from Painted Horseshoe Ranch as a two-year-old, and she has become one of the mares we’ve built our program around.

She’s the kind of mare you notice right away — not because you’re trying to pick her apart, but because everything about her just works.

She is classy built, good boned, and athletic, with a strong hip, good shoulder, and balanced structure. She has a willing, trainable disposition and the kind of natural cow sense that makes her enjoyable to ride.

But more than that, she’s the kind that makes a job easier, not harder.

And that’s what matters.

The Kind You Can Trust

One fall day, Ally’s main ranch horse came up lame, and she was absolutely heartbroken.

Mike told her we had plenty of horses to choose from and to go pick out a replacement to ride.

She came back from the pasture leading a young Dynamite.

Mike was a little concerned about how things might go — a young mare and a teenage daughter, both somewhat inexperienced — but the two of them got along perfectly from the start.

They took care of each other.

And it just worked.

The next spring, Mike told Ally to go out to the pasture and catch her young mare, and he would show her how to warm Dynamite up since she hadn’t been ridden since the fall before.

Unbeknownst to us, Ally had gone out on the four-wheeler to catch her — but instead of leading her back, she had climbed on bareback with only a halter and ridden her home.

When Mike saw what she had done, he just laughed and said,
“Well… I guess she’s already warmed up for you.”

That moment said a lot about the kind of mare Dynamite is.

The Good Ones Still Stay Good

In June 2026, Dynamite gave us another reminder.

She hadn’t been ridden in over eight years. She’d been busy making babies in the broodmare band.

Ally hopped on bareback with a halter and lead rope to help bring the broodmares and foals in so we could sort them into breeding groups.

The good ones still stay good.

It was the same kind of mind we’d appreciated in that young mare years before — still there, even after all that time raising foals.

Pedigree Highlights

On the face of her papers, Dynamite carries Grays Starlight, Peppy San Badger, Colonel Freckles, Doc O Dynamite, Doc O'Lena, and Paddys Irish Whiskey.

Dynamite is by All Starlight, a son of Grays Starlight and out of Miss Colonel Chex, by Colonel Freckles.

Her dam, Dynamites Starlite, is by Doc O Dynamite and out of Easy Movin Starlight, a daughter of Paddys Irish Whiskey.

Those are names we appreciate having behind our horses. But our confidence in Dynamite comes from knowing the mare herself — how she thinks, what she’s like to ride, and what she has produced.

A Proven Producer

Dynamite’s older daughters are horses we already enjoy riding. Her younger daughters are still developing, giving us more of this family to look forward to.

Through her offspring, we’ve come to value the consistency she brings:

  • Good minds and willing attitudes
  • Athletic ability with natural cow sense
  • Balance and substance
  • Trainability and responsiveness
  • The ability to go be useful

The Header × Dynamite cross has been a particular favorite — quiet, willing, athletic horses that fit what we’re trying to raise.

Sexy, Fancy, Purdy, and Mildred each have their own personalities and their own place here. Keeping those daughters has been our way of carrying Dynamite’s influence into the next generation.

Giving Last Call His Chance

Her 2026 colt, MT LAST CALL, is Colonel C Header’s final stud colt for our HQH program.

Do we really need another stallion?
Probably not…

But his full sisters have become some of our favorite horses to ride. We decided to hang onto him for now and give him the opportunity to develop and show us what he can be.

We don’t keep colts just because they’re colts.
They have to earn that opportunity.

For now, Last Call is a program prospect with a chance to prove himself.

Our Broodmare Philosophy

We don’t believe broodmares should simply be horses that couldn’t do anything else. We want kind, trainable, dependable, good-minded mares — the kind of horses we enjoy being around, whether they’re carrying a rider or raising a foal.

Dynamite helped set that standard for us. We’ve ridden her, trusted her with Ally, and watched her daughters develop. Our confidence in what she produces comes from knowing the mare behind those foals.

Looking Ahead

Mares like Dynamite are hard to replace.

And truthfully… we’re not trying to.

We’re building around her.
