Producer Note:
Bonnie has proven to be an exceptionally consistent producer, and we have retained every filly she produced to carry her influence forward in our program. She is also the dam of our junior stallion, MT ONE SHOTTA HEADER “Buckshot,” further extending her impact into the next generation.
A rare kind of mare — one that combines ability, softness, and a genuine desire to take care of her rider.
About Bonnie
Some mares are special because of what they can do.
Some are special because of how they make you feel.
Bonnie was both.
From the moment you were around her, the first thing you noticed was her ex
And they truly don’t come any kinder than she was.
The Kind That Takes Care of You
We purchased Bonnie as an 8-year-old mare for Chad.
She had already had a year of professional training with Dan Roeser as a reined cow horse and had been shown — so there was never any question about her ability. She had all the tools, all the buttons, and more talent than most horses ever get the chance to show.
She could flat cut a cow.
She knew her job.
She was broke, trained, and capable in every sense.
But what made her special had nothing to do with any of that.
When Chad rode her, something changed.
You could watch her dial herself back — soften, settle, and completely shift her focus. Her priority wasn’t showing what she could do… it was taking care of him.
And she did it in a way that was quiet and intentional.
She wasn’t just a good horse.
She was his horse.
The kind that builds confidence.
The kind that forgives mistakes.
The kind that makes a young cowboy better without him even realizing it.
That’s not something you train into one.
That’s who they are.
Pedigree Highlights
Bonnie is by All Starlight, a son of Grays Starlight — a line we’ve come to rely on for producing horses with cow sense, athletic ability, and trainable, level-headed minds.
She was one of three All Starlight mares we owned, and each of them brought something different to the program.
Bonnie brought the kind.
What She Produced
If Bonnie had only been a good ranch horse, she still would’ve been worth owning.
But what she produced is what made her truly special.
Her foals have consistently shown:
- Kind, people-first dispositions
- Willing, trainable minds
- Athletic ability with “all the buttons”
- Natural cow sense
- A softness and confidence that makes them easy to ride
This cross has been incredibly consistent for us — the kind you come to expect, not hope for.
The kind that just doesn’t miss.
A Mare That Gave Us More
We have retained every one of Bonnie’s daughters.
That’s not something we say lightly — and it speaks directly to the kind of mare she was.
Those daughters have continued to prove themselves under saddle, carrying forward the same kindness, trainability, and ability that made Bonnie so special in the first place.
She is also the dam of our junior stallion, MT ONE SHOTTA HEADER “Buckshot,” a colt we retained as a stud prospect to carry her influence forward into the next generation of our program.
Mares like Bonnie don’t just contribute — they shape the future.
Our Broodmare Philosophy
For us, a mare needs to be proven before she ever earns a place in the broodmare band. That might be in the show pen, on the ranch, or before she ever got to us — but she needs to have demonstrated ability and rideability. At a minimum, she is broke to ride with meaningful time under saddle.
We’ve put real miles on our mares — gathering, working cattle, and using them in day-to-day ranch work — so we know exactly what they’re like when it matters.
They have to meet the same standard as everything else here:
usable, good-minded, and built to last.
Bonnie met that standard in every way.
And she passed it on.
Legacy
Bonnie is the kind of mare that’s hard to replace.
Not because of what she did — but because of who she was.
You don’t come across many that are that kind, that forgiving, and that willing to put their rider first.
Her influence lives on through her daughters… through Buckshot… and in the standard she quietly set for what a truly great mare can be.
And if you were lucky enough to watch her take care of Chad, you understand exactly what made her so special.
