Producer Note:

Zena has proven to be an exceptionally consistent producer. Her foals are correct, capable, and in high demand — with multiple offspring spoken for year after year from repeat buyers. This is a cross that continues to deliver.

The kind that just doesn’t miss — and proves it year after year.

About Zena

Some mares you plan on.

Some mares you take a chance on.

And sometimes… those are the ones that turn into something more than you expected.

Zena was that kind.

A Chance That Paid Off

We bought Zena as an unstarted 6-year-old mare.

She came from a program we had respected for a long time — the kind of horses we had been around enough to know what they were.

Good-minded.
Ranch capable.
The kind that held up.

Even without being started, there was something about her we liked.

So we took the chance.

What She Could Have Been

Zena was a breeze to start.

From the very beginning, she showed all the signs of being an A-1, top-notch ranch horse — the kind that had the ability, the mind, and the feel to go be something really special.

But an old injury from when she was a foal started to catch up with her.

And instead of pushing her past what was fair, we made the decision to move her into the broodmare band.

What She Became

And that turned out to be the right decision.

Because Zena didn’t just become a broodmare.

She became an exceptional one.

The Kind That Doesn’t Miss

Zena has been one of the most consistent producers we’ve had.

Her foals are:

  • Big, strong, and well-built
  • Good-minded and capable
  • And ready to go on and be useful

They’re the kind that stand out early and continue to prove themselves as they go.

And the consistency isn’t just something we see.

It’s something other people have recognized too.

We’ve had the same program come back year after year.

That doesn’t happen by accident.

That happens when something consistently works.

What She Produces

Zena crosses extremely well with our program, especially with Colonel C Header “Header.”

That pairing has proven itself time and time again — producing foals that are:

  • Athletic
  • Substantial
  • Trainable
  • And built for real use

It’s the kind of cross you come to rely on.

Not hope for.

A Mare That Earned Her Place

Zena may not have had the chance to show everything she was capable of under saddle.

But she’s more than made up for it in what she produces.

And in the end, that’s what matters.

She’s earned her place here — not because of what she could have been…

…but because of what she consistently delivers.

Our Broodmare Philosophy

For us, a mare needs to be proven before she ever earns a place in the broodmare band. That might be in the show pen, on the ranch, or before she ever got to us — but she needs to have demonstrated ability and rideability. At a minimum, she is broke to ride with meaningful time under saddle.

We’ve put real miles on our mares — gathering, working cattle, and using them in day-to-day ranch work — so we know exactly what they’re like when it matters.

They have to meet the same standard as everything else here:
usable, good-minded, and built to last.

Zena proves that standard in a different way — through the consistency of what she produces.

Looking Ahead

Zena is a mare we count on.

She’s proven, predictable in the best way, and continues to produce the kind of horses people come back for.

And that’s about as strong of a statement as you can make about a broodmare.
