One We Tried to Sell… (Sort Of)

Sexy is a home-raised mare and the result of a cross we intentionally repeated — Colonel C Header crossed on our mare Dynamite.

She is part of a group of home-raised mares that represent generations of consistency we are building within our program.

For the first couple years of her life, she was technically on the for-sale list.

We had people interested off and on, but never any takers.

One day Mike asked what I had her priced at.

I giggled and said,
“You told me I needed to list her for sale… but you never said for how much.”

The truth was…

I didn’t really want to sell her.

So I priced her unreasonably high.

That ended up working out just fine.

A Ranch Horse First

From ages two through five, Sexy became part of Mike’s ranch riding string.

And once he started riding her…

That was the end of any chance she was leaving.

She quickly moved from the “for sale” list to the “Mike’s all-time favorites” list.

Which tells you about everything you need to know.

What She Is

From the start, she wasn’t exactly what we had pictured.

She was born a tiny premie filly — and if we’re being honest, she was a bit of a disappointment at the time. We had big expectations for Dynamite’s first baby, and she didn’t exactly match the picture we had in our heads.

So we gave her a name to match what we hoped she’d grow into.

Something strong.
Something bold.

Something that might help her catch up to the dreams we had for her.

“Sexy.”

And somewhere along the way…

She did.

She’s naturally athletic.
Good-boned.
Balanced and correct.

Strong hip. Good shoulder.
And yes… a butt J-Lo would be envious of.

She has a sound, trainable mind and a kind, willing disposition.

She’s attentive without being hot.
Sensitive without being fragile.

And always feels like she’s working with you instead of against you.

The kind that makes riding enjoyable — and usable.

Sexy is a daughter of Colonel C Header, a stallion that consistently produces good-minded, athletic, usable horses with strong cow sense and natural ability.

On the bottom side, she goes back to our cornerstone mare Dynamite — whose influence continues to shape our program.

The Header × Dynamite cross has been one of the most consistent things we’ve done.

Many of these mares are closely related and represent generations of consistency we are building within Hitchcock Quarter Horses.

Our everyday riding horses are often the same fillies we plan to retain as broodmares.

That’s where they prove themselves.

We don’t show them in a show pen.

We show them in the work pen.

Our Broodmare Philosophy

Our broodmares are expected to be broke to ride with real, proven time under saddle. That experience may come from our ranch program, previous owners, or performance training — but they must demonstrate rideability, willingness, and real-world usability.

We’ve put miles on our mares in real country — gathering, working cattle, long days, changing ground — so we know exactly what they’re like when it matters.

They have to meet the same standard as everything else here:
usable, good-minded, and built to last.
